A family from Stafford managed to move into their dream home after nearly two decades of renting council houses. Kelly and Chris Moran decided they wanted to own their own home after 19 years of renting. They loved the look of new-build homes in the town but thought they were out of their price range even though they had a decent deposit saved up.

But they were overjoyed when they were told they qualified for help from the Help to Buy Scheme, which meant they could afford the three-bedroomed detached house they knew would be perfect for them and their two children aged 14 and 19 –and a new baby on the way.

They began their search in late 2020, viewing a whole range of properties, but nothing felt like it was their forever home until they fell in love with the new houses going up at the The Fairways development, off St Leonard’s Avenue in the town, from St Modwen Homes.

Kelly said: “The Fairways development had a far better and much more appealing location and the higher standard of work along with the finish of craftsmanship was a huge factor in choosing a St Modwen Homes property.

“We tried a lot of housebuilders and locations, but The Fairways development was located perfectly for us. We are now close to local amenities, great schools and nurseries, and the commute is much easier for my husband.”

Despite not initially searching for a new build, Kelly and Chris loved the modern feel of the St Modwen ones and say they set their heart on moving there. Kelly added: “We were lucky enough to have support with the Help to Buy Scheme when securing our home. We already had quite a decent sized deposit saved, but this really helped to take a chunk off the costs and get us in our home faster.

“It was a really easy transaction as we didn’t previously own a property. Our neighbours have all introduced themselves, making it feel like we are all part of a community.”
