2021 has been a huge year for celebrity real estate, with myriad A-listers offloading property for eye-watering sums of money.
Far too many titles have changed hands this year to list all of them, so we’ve singled out some of the most expensive. Get ready to say “wow!”.
Calvin Klein – $119 million
Fashion tycoon Calvin Klein easily takes out the top spot of most expensive celebrity home sold in 2021, with the magnate selling the last of his Hamptons property portfolio for an unbelievable $119 million.
Spread over a whopping 34,000-square-metres, the East Hamptons residence was built in 1891 and originally designed by Joseph Greenleaf Thorp – a popular Hamptons architect at the time.
The massive property features a main home, sizeable pool and a boathouse that backs onto Georgica Pond.
The $119 million sale price was actually the result of both the main property and a neighbouring parcel of land being sold for $105 million and $14 million, respectively.
As mentioned earlier, this isn’t Klein’s first mega real-estate deal in the perennially popular beachside locale.
Just last year, the fashion doyen sold his South Hamptons Meadow Lane property to hedge fund manager Ken Griffin for a reported $117.5 million.
Greg Norman – $77 million
Aussie golfing legend Greg Norman and his wife Kiki made headlines in January when they listed their unbelievable Juniper Island estate in Florida for an insane $84 million.
However, Norman must’ve been keen to offload the sprawling residence, named ‘Tranquillity’, because records show he later sold it for $77 million in April.
The veritable compound spans 33629-square-metres and boasts seven different buildings, including the main home, pool house, tennis house, boathouse, carriage house, 12 car garage and a beach house nicknamed the ‘Shark Shack’.
The golfing Hall of Famer has previously expressed a desire to return to Australia after a well-publicised bout of Covid-19 left the former pro-golfer in hospital.
In January, Norman wrote in Stellar Magazine, “I want to get back to Australia as soon as I can. To tell you the truth, I think about coming home every second day.”
Lewis Hamilton – $69.1 million
Sir Lewis had only owned the Tribeca triplex penthouse for six short years, having purchased the desirable residence back in 2015 for $61.3 million.
But, when you’ve got the chance to make a cool $7.8 million, why not, right?
And Hamilton isn’t short of other properties, with the F1 racer owning several pieces of real estate across the globe, including homes in Los Angeles, London and Monte Carlo.
Tom Cruise – $55.2 million
Hollywood royal Tom Cruise sold his longtime Telluride, Colorado ranch in May for a cool $55.2 million.
The gigantic 1,294,994-square-metre property and its stunning log-cabin-style home is a celebrity in its own right, having featured in a 40-plus minute interview between Cruise and talkshow legend Oprah Winfrey.
The ranch consists of a 930-square-metre, seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom main home and guest house. It features a large games room, fitness centre, three-car garage and uninterrupted views of Colorado’s achingly beautiful, mountainous countryside.
It’s not known who the new owners of the Telluride ranch are, but we really hope Cruise, at least once, proclaimed, “show me the money!” during negotiations.
Tom Brady and Gisele Bündchen – $45.5 million
The five-bedroom, seven-bathroom family residence had been on the market for nearly two years, and Brady and Bündchen had to drop the asking price by nearly $10 million to find an interested buyer.
Still, with a combined net worth estimated to be around $840 million (what!), we don’t think the power couple will be losing any sleep over the slight price drop.
