A labor of love: Sand Springs man hand-built futuristic home to honor late wife
Les Damer was a Sand Springs man who built a home that looks like it could belong in The Jetsons or a space-age film. He built this unique dwelling, which he modeled after a postcard he found of a home in California, in 2005 as a tribute to his late wife. After Damer’s passing, the home is now back on the market. I can’t wait to see who lives there next.
‘A place to come together’: Tulsa woman opens home to deaf-blind people
Tulsan Jeri Cooper uses her deaf-blindness as a superpower. Last spring, Cooper, an advocate for the deaf-blind community, opened the door to Jeri’s House, a place for deaf-blind individuals to live and learn how to become self-sufficient in their day-to-day lives. I felt so inspired after meeting Cooper, and I know the deaf-blind students she helps feel the same way.
Southern Hills-area homeowners upon front row for PGA Championship: ‘A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all of us’
Several different Tulsans with homes on or near the Southern Hills golf course let photographers and me inside this summer. We photographed their breathtaking homes and had conversations about how much the PGA Championship meant to the particular Southern Hills community . It was special to see how much love these folks had for the sport and how grateful they were that Southern Hills was chosen to host the tournament.
‘Creating memories’: Homeowners within North Maple Ridge go all-out for Halloween
One day, as I was on a walk through North Maple Ridge, my jaw dropped when I saw all of the amazing Halloween decorations these homeowners put up . I knew I wanted to do a story about these houses for World of Homes, but I had no idea how to get in touch with the owners, so I wrote several letters and dropped them in their mailboxes. The next day, photographer Daniel Shular and I went through the neighborhood, taking photos of the homes and meeting the homeowners who opened my characters. We even got to visit my childhood home, which was decorated with huge spiders.
