EVANSVILLE – Think of Secretariat blowing away the field in the 1973 Belmont Stakes, winning the race and the Triple Crown by a whopping 31 lengths.

The most expensive house sold in Vanderburgh County in July showed similar dominance over any competitor.

A Newburgh Road mansion on Evansville’s East Side pulled more than $2. 1 million, according to data provided by the assessor’s office. No other Vanderburgh Region home topped a $1 million sale price during July.

It was a brisk month overall, with nine Vanderburgh County houses selling for at least $500, 000, and 252 sales surpassing $100, 000. But the Newburgh Road property stands out.

6213 Newburgh Road, $2. 1 million

At nearly 10, 000 square feet, this big house designed and renovated by Denton Homes “combines wonderful livability along with high-end finishes, exceptional flair and a great combination of the past and present, ” based on its Zillow. com description.

The home with five bedrooms and eight bathrooms sits on 3. 5 acres. It has a large covered front porch plus spacious foyer, an open dining room featuring a fireplace, built-in cabinets and shelves, surround sound and a sitting area. Zillow describes the kitchen as a “show-stopper” with a massive center island.

Other highlights: the sun-filled family room, a home office on the main floor, a theatre room and a large mud room with built-in lockers.

Outside, there’s an in-ground pool, hot tub, covered patio, outdoor kitchen and double-sided fireplace.

10700 Old Plantation Drive, $850, 000

The sale price of this home seems to be the norm for Plantation Estates, a subdivision near McCutchanville. Homes here typically have about 6, 500 square feet and are priced about $877, 000. The homeowners association’s monthly fee is about $83.

The estate at 10700 Old Plantation Drive sits on two acres plus covers 5, 600 square feet. With four bedrooms and five bathrooms, it also has three fireplaces and inground pool and large kitchen with breakfast area overlooking the porch plus rear patio.

10607 Oglesby Road, $799, 900

In June, a house on this same block in Farmington Place subdivision was among the top-five most expensive sales . This picturesque four-bedroom, three-bathroom home nearby closes out July’s list.
